Sometime, one moves fast... too fast maybe.

Yesterday, I went on an image hunt. Since I have my eyes everywhere but not
enough on the road, I hired youngster to assist me and drive for me. After the
usual instructions on how to hold the gear, the usual checks, how to store it
and explaining the area I want to explore, we're off!

On the way back, she asks me if she can see what's in the box and what I in-
tend to do with it. — "OK, here's to your good services as promised" and we
enter the studio. We take time to relax, make lemonades and settle in with the
cards in my hand. I worked with three of my cameras that day.

First, I copy the cards on the machine: 1 XQD and 2 CFs. I launch my converter
and HORROR! One of the CFs confirms 167 shots but only 13 are visible. At the
beginning there are 6 images, then 154 black frames and 7 more shots. I've ne-
ver seen that before... I'm getting a bit panicky. Well, the next step is to use the
second card (SDHC II) and copy it too... and HORROR again!

Conclusion? Not yet, not everything has been explored, though out. That two
cards of the same quality and from the same manufacturer, which should have
recorded the same session go bad the same way at the same time... that's un-
heard of... well, let's stay cool. What if it was the body that went bad? It's a good
thing it wasn't for a client.

If it were the case, I can't rely on it anymore and replacing it at this time doesn't
suit me at all. But I suspect the problem is there. How can it fail me and go back
to work as if nothing had happened? Quid and a kind of doubt sets in.

I start to develop the cards that are there, 321 valid takes, everything is fine there
but, in my head, it's boiling, it's hot, it's overheating.

— "Tell me, when I gave you a body, what did you do with it?
"Well... I made sure to pick it up with both hands, set the cap back on and put it
back in the bag, making sure it didn't come into direct contact with anything else."

— "Is that all?"
"Well yes... I think so, why?

— "Because I think that the 154 images in question are not lost shots!
"...I don't understand!"

— "Didn't I tell you there was one thing to check before all this?"
"???"

— "... to make sure that the camera is turned off?"
"OMG OMG OMG!"

She had tears welling up in her eyes and was starting to shake, horrified.

I took her hands in mine...
— "Look, of all the nonsense that may be expected first time on the job, you have
committed the most...(she expected the worst!) the funniest and absolutely incon-
sequential goof of them all."
" ??? "

I handed her a tissue and continued:
— "We could have had an accident of some kind or other annoyance but what hap-
pened is that no pictures were lost. You gave me 154 unexpected pictures of the
bottom of my bag... an idea that would never have occurred to me!

She calmed down and smiled again. — "Shall we do it again next weekend?"  smile.png

Right, now it is funny… but when trying to deduct what happened,
it wasn't. I felt so insecure in regard to that body.
