Thank you for the whole series of Gettysburg post you've made. Your images and commentary conjure up the sounds and smells of the battlefield. These last images...tranquil, serene, and beautiful...are a poignant counterpoint to what happened during those July days.
There's more to come. I broke things up with the above scenes that require no story.
The National Park Service does a fantastic job with all their Battlefield Parks, but Gettysburg is their crown jewel. They're constantly improving the Park, putting the landscape back to what it looked like in 1863 through period photos and maps. Visitor accessibility is a constant priority also. In some of the Round Top photos you can see where they did controlled burning to give people the experience of climbing the heights. The Pennsylvania Memorial, (up-coming photos) has a staircase to the roof that opened after years of being closed to the public, I didn't go up this time because of several tours there, (didn't want to slow the young people down). Most buildings on the Park are homes of Rangers who work there, this keeps the buildings nice, as you've seen.
The Park is a living memorial to those who fought there on both sides, they were all Americans.

Sometimes, the story telling is in the pictures!
