Shutter count appears to count two for every image taken. Example image ref DSC-0001 shutter 587 image ref DSC-0002 shutter 589

Anyone any ideas?

Thank you

George

If the images were taken back to back, then that would be strange, but could be explained by the use of multi-exposures or a similar mode which captures multiple photos for a single file.

If they were taken at different times, however, the file number could have been reset for a variety of reasons, such as the creation of a new folder or deletion of a file on the card.

As Adam already suggested I would also suspect some bracketting (a normal feature of your camera - the camera may in-camera combine multiple exposures to a single picture).

To find out how bracketting is set/unset, see here:

Bracketing - Nikon D5200 Reference Manual [Page 100] | ManualsLib

Thanks for prompt replies.

Have checked Auto Bracketing, is set to AE and shows OFF in shooting display. Also shutter only operates once for each shot.

ok, thanks for checking

While taking a capture do you hear the mirror move once or twice?

Two possible settings to check:

- checking for multiexposure

Multiple exposure | Nikon D5200 User Manual | Page 90 / 264

- using the outputformat Raw as this shall generate one file by capture (other than JPG which can combine two captures)

If none helps I suggest you RESET the camera to factory settings using the camera menu. (This double count on the captures must not have been there since the beginning as otherwise your counter would show even rather than odd numbers)

Have checked and multiexposure is off. Output format is JPG changed it to that from RAW+JPG as that was the setting I first noticed double count. Will try reset and let you know

Thanks

Have just reset as suggested and all seems OK. Shutter count moves by one after each exposure.

Thanks for your help.

George
