Hi,

I recently purchased a Nikon D7000 which came with an AF-S 18-105mm VR lens, and these seemed to work perfectly, including autofocus and vibration reduction.

I then bought another lens, an AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, but the VR didn't work and the lens made a loud grinding noise when the camera was powered on. I returned this lens, which the seller admitted hadn't been tested recently, and bought another of the same model.

This second one seems to work perfectly apart from the VR - I can't hear any VR hum and in testing shots I can't get VR to make a difference. VR seems to work perfectly on my 18-105mm lens, and the seller of my second 70-300mm states the VR was tested and working on a D500 in the past week.

It does seem coincidental that VR didn't work on either 70-300mm lens I tested, while it did work on another camera, although as far as I'm aware the lens is compatible with the D7000 and my camera works fine with another lens.

I can't think of an obvious cause for the problem, but I don't have a lot of technical knowledge when it comes to cameras and lenses having picked up the interest quite recently, so I may be missing something obvious. Any ideas?

Thanks, Connor
