I had a lucky week. So many Pied Wagtails showed up at the marsh

within just a few days and almost every time at close range.

This insignificant bird — too sober looking for its own good — is of
ten overlooked by many birders and photographers and that makes
it rare in image banks. It is that reason that motivated its selection for
the year magazine cover by a federal wildlife bureau for May 2021.
