The pun is that DS can be read as déesse. The cheaper variant, the ID can be read as idée and should be taken as not quite being divine, but the idea of divinity.
From the model year 1965, there was a luxury upgrade called the DS Pallas (after Greek goddess Pallas Athena), running the pun even further.
