I have Coolpix P1000 mounted on a Neewer Alluminum Alloy Quick Release plate, 4.5 inches long that runs under the lens. No matter what quick release plate I use - Manfrotto, BlackRapid, ArcaSwiss, when I shift the camera over 90 degrees to portrait mode the camera rotates downward. Any suggestions?

Camera swivels downward when in portrait mode on quick release plate

I don’t have the P1000, so have to guess that the camera is front heavy, causing it to rotate when put in portrait mode.
If som an L shaped plate might give it a better fix. There are different brands that produce such L-plates, some of them specific for some cameras (keeping those zones free where the camera has slots), so take the following just as an example:
