Howdy folks,
My name is Shawn and I am from southernmost Illinois from a small town called Metropolis which happens to be Superman City! I’m 36, male and while I’ve had Nikon SLRs for quite a few years now, I’m a big noob!
I started out with D3100 and now have the D7100. I’ve had the 7100 for a while and have never really gave it a chance. So, now I am writing a guide book for a local trail and I want to show photos that look good when printed out on paper. My iPhone takes great photos but it’s laughable for me to want to rely on it especially when I have a better camera right?
My D7100 isn’t the best out there but I don’t think it’s the worth either. I need need help getting past the security blanket of auto. f stop, aperture and all that I want to learn about.
Besides that, I’m an avid hiker and cyclist. I do a YouTube about that stuff and it has made me some kind of local public figure now. I’m also really into these forums as I’ve been using forums since the age of dialup! I even run a few myself.
Thanks for having me here and i hope to be able to learn a lot!

Your D7100 is no slouch unless you need a bigger buffer for fast-paced action.
Sometimes your iPhone is a better tool as you will get a deeper depth of field for a given scene than with your DSLR.
To get going, the David Busch books for the D7100 are well worth getting and reading. Both the Guide and the Field guide are aimed for the intermediate user who wants to get better and are basically text books, but tweaked for the camera model they cover. Reading something like this can make it easier to find out what questions to ask on a forum.
