Finally got to using my B&H gift card. ( Thank you Nikon Forums) and ordered a ring light and macro lens.

This morning I was trying to capture snowflakes, and didn't do so well.  I placed the surgace to my griddle in the freezer, then tried to get snowflakes to fall onto it. All I manaaged to do was get a good pic of the griddle though. Any thoughts on the setup? Smoother darker surface maybe?

Thanks

Phil

I'm responding to this post not because I know any answers to your questions but because I want to know what responses you get! Photographing snowflakes is one of my goals this year, so I'm quite interested.

Yes I will have one of those Cherry Toaster Strudels.

I'm interested too. It finally quit snowing here so I might have to wait a bit. But my thoughts were to get a piece of glass frozen and then light it from underneath. Not sure if it will work but I'll try to figure that out.

Snow flakes are in short supply here I live in the driest state on the driest continent on earth .

guess the chippings from the deep freeze liner are not a good substitute  B)  B)  B)  B)  B)

I've had reasonable success with hand-held snowflake shots during the day. Maybe not what you're looking for, but it certainty works as long as you've got a macro lens and enough light ;)
