Hello new to the forum and hoping someone can help me without with this problem. I have been using the D3100 in the S mode with no problem. Now, in the S mode I can't get the shutter speed to go any higher then 1/200. Is their some kind of lock I have placed on the camera?  Aperture in A mode works perfect. Thanks for your help

Is the flash symbol active?

A cap at 1/200 seems like the camera thinks the flash is active. You can try raising and lowering the pop-up flash a few times and maybe clean the contacts in the hotshoe.
