I have no experience with any other software that the one I use
since years in my operations… can't help much in this.
However, I am sure other members do and they will chime in!
Btw, welcome!

What Windows version? Latest version of the software? Fully patched system? Do you have any strange hardware? Does it start if you run Windows in Safe mode?
I have little experience with NX-D under Windows as I have been a Mac user since System 7. Answers to these questions might help someone else to figure it out.

I run Capture NX-D on a Windows 8.1 desktop machine and a Windows 10 laptop.
In case you haven't done something like this, here's my advice. Uninstall the program using Windows and then delete the .exe installation file you got from Nikon. Then download the free version of CCleaner (Download CCleaner | Clean, optimize & tune up your PC, free!). Among its several features, it will analyze and let you clean the Registry of artifacts that remains behind when programs are deleted. I have used CCleaner for many years and it's reliable and handy.
When that's done, download a fresh version of the Capture NX-D installation file (Nikon | Download center | NX Studio), reinstall the program and see if that cures the problem.
