Hey everyone,

So I've done successful star trails imaging before with a canon (don't remember the model), and I have been trying to do the same with the Nikon D600 we have at work, but the interval timer is just not cooperating!

I've tried bulb mode, but really for getting dark skies and bright stars you can only do maybe a 30 minute shot, which just barely shows trails, not the same as a 1.5-3 hour stacked image or longer.  The interval between shots needs to be no more than 1 second apart otherwise it is too easy to see gaps between the images and your star trails will look like a bunch of dots or dashes.

This is what's happening though, the camera will not take the amount of images I tell it to in the interval settings, it's only taking about half to 2/3.  I've adjusted the image type to raw, to jpeg, to the smallest resolution, the smallest picture area, upgraded to a faster SD card (300 MB/sec) and still it is not taking or storing or processing the images.

I've been asking of it to take 185 to 300 images at 1 sec apart and only getting 83 - 120 images back.  What is happening?

I welcome any and all help with this setting!

-Melanie

I'm having the same problem with both D610 and D850. Did you get an answer to this question?  I emailed Nikon. They said to look at page 165 of the D610 manual. Nothing there helped. I have done many long exposure photos using Interval timer and never had a problem till lately.

Thanks,

Jerome
