Question about a rangefinder

Hopefully I'm posting in the right place.

 

I was planning on buying Nikon 8397 ACULON AL11 Laser Rangefinder for target shooting. I guess it's been discontinued.

 

I will be shooting 300 yards or less.

 

Is the PROSTAFF 1000 rangefinder worth the extra money or should I just get and ACULON refurbished somewhere.

 

I did read on review that said the ACULON had trouble black or dark colored targets which would definitely be a problem for me.
