I do lots of restorations and sometimes im not able to scan the image. I was thinking of a macro but those might get to much detail from the paper that will need to be toned down. Hoping to hear about which lenses people have tried for it and the quality of results they are getting.  Any flashes? I have used my nikkor 18-200mm and thought the images came out well but they still did not have enough contrast and detail capture as i would have liked.

The 60mm is Nikkors bench reproduction lens.  It is super sharp with little distortion.  This is the one to buy.

I was going to say the Tamron 60mm f2 ... but the Nikkor Long Exposure mentioned is probably a better choice and only a little more money.

A relative borrowed my AF60/2.8D micro for copy stand work using his D5000 to copy photographs and ended up keeping the lens.  I've seen some of the copies and I thought the results were excellent.  The working distance with the 60mm is perfect so I'm sure the challenge would be proper lighting.
