Ok, the "err"-message on the D80 is widely mentioned all over internet forums. My camera has been packed in a box in my basement for about 3-4 years now but I thought it would be nice to try it again for a little project I'm working on.
Found the camera, found the charger (5 hours later...), charged the battery, turned the camera on, display shows "Err". I remove and cleaned the connectors to the lens, no improvement. The flash won't pop up, the LCD on top shows normal data except the "Err" and I can't adjust any settings. The shutter and mirror works.
So I decided that as this camera will be to expensive to fix, that I, as an electrical engineer I can fix it myself, and if not, well, it doesn't work to begin with. So I removed the lens and started fiddling with the mirror at the same time i pressed the trigger and then I got a "F--" error instead. I then put on the lens again and voila, the camera worked....for one shot. Then the "Err" was back again.
So, can anybody give their best opinion on what the err might represent with the above information? Can it be the mirror that won't reach it's endpoint or something like that?
