Hi,
I have a Nikon D500 that I bought used from a lens rental company this spring. I use a Nikon 300mm f4 AF-S D that I use with 3 Nikon teleconverters...a TC14E, TC17EII and TC20E. They all give me sporadic communication/autofocus problems with my D500. When the TC/lens combo doesn't work, the aperture flashes and the lens will not autofocus. I usually have to turn the camera off, detatch and re-attach the lens/TC. All 3 teleconverters work to varying degrees, and when they do I am very satisfied with the results. With the TC17EII and TC20E the issues happen occasionally. With the TC14E it's most of the time. It seems that the only time the TC14E will work is if I shut the camera down after each shot and torque the lens on the camera body before turning the camera on again. I've become adept at dealing with the issue, but I would sure like to solve the problem once and for all. When I miss a shot because of the issue it's very frustrating.
I have tested the lens/teleconverter combos with my D300 and D610 and have no issues at all, so I believe the problem is isolated to my D500. My question is do the contact/s need to be replaced or is there some type of special cleaner that I should try to use before sending my camera in for service? I would like to fix the problem my self rather than be without my camera for any amount of time.
I have tried cleaning all contacts on camera, lens and TCs with iso alcohol with minimal results.
Thanks,
