Hi, new member to the forum here!

I’ve got a D5300 and i’ve started having issues with the focus on the camera. At first I thought it was the lens but i’ve tried all my lenses and same thing.

Yesterday morning, I took a photo of a street sign in the distance using a Sigma 150-600 lens and the picture was crystal clear and I could read it without a problem. Last night I was getting blurry photos at 150mm so went back to street sign and the writing on the sign was barely readable.

As I said, I tried my other lenses and the output wasn’t right.

I’ve not altered any settings on the camera and have tried the various tips i.e. removing battery, checking the focus is set the same on lens and camera body etc...

Ran out of ideas and suspect it might be a return to Nikon job. Anyone got any ideas before I send it away to be fixed? Cheers!

You mention that the good pictures were in the morning and the blurry ones in the evening (‘... last night’)

Could it be a matter of low light? (The Sigma used at 150 is at an aperture of max f5, at 600 at a max of f6.3) so low light can be an issue for autofocussing ( which is done with the aperture wide open)

You also say you did not change any settings...what were the settings (EXIF information) used for the :"good" image and the "bad" image?  Can you post the two street sign examples?

May we see some samples?

What was the weather like? Was it a coldish and wet evening? If the weather is exactly wrong for our cameras, condensation can form on the sensor.
