I think I will shoot a normal lens challenge in November. Does anyone want to shoot along?
Dig those 50-s on FX and 35-s on DX up and get out!

I don't have a 50 mm lens but I could set a zoom
at that focal length. Would that count, Peter?

How do we know you won't fudge the lens one way or the other? Sounds awful screwy to me!

I'm up for it, assuming I get the time. It'll probably be my FX 35mm on the D7K tho.

I don't think I need to fudge anything in anyway,
and nothing to prove either... I shall abstain.

It isn't about proving...I know I don't have the option of a 35 or a 50...And while I know what Peter meant, that FOV is not "normal" for me (and I am sure others).  That said, without promising, I am going to try and grab some images during November with my 24-70 on 35 with my D500 or 50 on my D4 bodies.

I would much rather have a focal length of 40-45 mm, but Nikon have never made even a fastish 45 and the pancake 45 needs a film era focusing screen to be easy to use.

The whole idea behind a challenge like this is to set a theme for going out and shoot. To me, it doesn't matter if someone uses a fast prime, a slow prime or a zoom to achieve a focal length equivalent to, say, 40-60 mm on film or FX. I wouldn't be surprised if I use a Holga 58/8 triplet some days and the fastish 50/1.8 some, with something like a 50/1.2 or a 50/1.4 in some version or other some days. If I can find it, even the Voigtländer 58/1.4 might see some use. There are a moving box or two with lenses in I haven't unpacked yet... I moved house on August 1.

No, no, no... you misunderstand. I was referring to using zoom lenses rather than primes. Unfortunately the joke bellyflopped. Such is life. Of course you're more than welcome to participate. None of this abstain talk, please.

I just picked up a cheap Nikon 40mm f/2.8DX Micro to use with my DX cameras when copying slides and negatives. I really haven't even had a chance to try it out. But the AF-S 35mm FX lens that I have is a gorgeous lens with creamy bokeh,  so that's what I'll be using. Once the rain stops anyway. I almost took it and my D7k to the polls yesterday but I'm glad I didn't. We got hit by a major rain squall which, in spite of my umbrella, left me soaked to the bone.

I tend to forget about the DX MicroNikkors as I have had them both and never bonded with them. The FX 35/1.8 is a favourite.

Ça me semble terriblement tordu!"

Au regard des contacts — très cordiaux du reste — que j'ai eus avec
vous, je ne pouvais pas comprendre la dichotomie que j'avais sous les
yeux.

L'anglais n'est pas une langue que maîtrise très bien… j'en suis désolé.

———————————

I didn't really understand the meaning of your reply, so I had to referre
to an online translator - who normally serves me well. And here is the
translation that was proposed to me:

"How do you know you're not going to rig the lens one way... or the o-
ther? That sounds terribly twisted to me!"

In view of the contacts — very cordial, by the way - that I've had with you,
I could not understand the dichotomy that I had under the eyes.

English is not a language that I master very well... I'm sorry about that.

I'm not real crazy about the 40mm sample I have either. However, it does appear to be relatively sharp at macro distances so I hope it will be an acceptable slide duplicating lens.

Oh, yes... I remember those threads. The FX 35mm f/1.8 is a jewel of a lens. I love how it draws and how crisp images made from it are. It's incredible bokeh is icing on the cake.

My fault. You converse so well here that I tend to forget the language barrier. My apologies.

Nonsense! You think "the joke bellyflopped"? Communication is not easy.
To prove it, let me tell you of a compliment that turned in a horror story.

I was to meet Helene at her place at 16:00. As usual, her mother in law was
making sure the homework of the four kids were going on… I arrived at 15:58.

Helene — a heavy 5'2, 30 year young lady with the sweetest character and
smile — passed the back door at exactly 16:00!

Quickly in my mind, I wanted to comment on her perfect timing and I meant
to say that she is sharp like a clock — which should translate by "scharf wie
eine Uhr" in German. But the mother in law — who never spoke to me anymo-
re since this happened some 25 years ago! — understood with my lousy pro-
nounciation: scharf wie eine Hure (sharp like a hooker!)

Communication is not easy.

Today, I restricted myself to moving within an 8-m radius.

Same camera and lens.
