Recently purchased a D3500.

I'm awaiting delivery of a new 18-140 Nikon lens.

Will the installed firmware automatically adjust for any known minor deviances with this lens?

I shoot RAW virtually all the time and do use a post processing programme (Capture One...Nikon version) when needed.

The firmware in the D3500 will apply the correction curve for in-camera .jpg processing and for raw processing using Nikon's own software. (ViewNX-i or Capture NX-D)

Third-party software developers either ignore this info as it is in the maker notes in the raw file or just use the lens name to apply their own correction curve.

Do you suggest that I should use Nikons own processing programmes for RAW images because third parties do not adjust them....or it is just a generic adjustment?

I'm a fairly casual user.

I don't see the 18-140 mentioned in the list of supported lens profiles at the Capture One site, but if I remember correctly, the distortion isn't too complex in that lens. 

Unless you shoot lots of architecture, you can probably get good results even without the corrections.

Installing and learning the basics for CaptureNX-D is a good idea, even if you only use it sporadically when you don't get the results you want with your ordinary editor.

I'll certainly explore CaptureNX-D and see if I can grasp the basics.

Mostly travel and local outdoor events are my thing.
