Hi all, sorry for the random post, but I really need some camera help ASAP. Today my Nikon D3500 completely stopped taking photos that aren’t completely black. In live mode (that allows me to see what my camera sees) I see vertical blue or black lines on a blue screen that goes completely white. The shutter is working fine and I reset my camera back to factory settings and it’s still not working.

Yesterday the camera worked fine, today I attached my returned Tamron 150-600mm lens that I’ve now sent in for repair three times for repeatedly giving me an “F—“ error that has troubled me since I got it. Instantly upon trying the lens this issue happened and persists when I put on my other, short lens that have never given me issue. However, I’m not even getting an “F—“ reading or any other alert to something being wrong.

I arrived somewhere I’ve dreamt of going today and was reallllly looking forward to taking photos, but was stymied today by this. If anyone can help me figure this out, I’d be so thankful!

The F— reading results from a problem of non-communication between the camera and the lens.
With the heavier lenses (f.i. 150-600) on the lightweight plastic bodies of the D3xxx and D5xxx this is most often caused by the weight of the lens putting to much stress on the lens mount, resulting in the electric contacts not fitting.

If you use a heavy lens (especially, but not only, on the D3xxx/D5xxx) use a sling strap (see: BlackRapid, Carry Speed, etc.) fixed to the lens, not the camera. (Or in more general: always wear the camera by the most heavier part of the equipment)

To what extend this may have caused the current situation of black&blue screen is difficult to say, but try mounting a different lens and see if teh problem repeats.

I'm having a similar issue with a brand new D3500,  I'm using older AF lenses in manual mode only.  When I first turn it on to live view the screen is white with pink vertical bars or all black, while it is like this all photos are black, usually after a while the live view starts working and the photos although still very dark do work.
