Hello,

To transfer photos from my camera, I have been using Nikon Transfer 2 software for several years. It is a very useful program where we can add metadata from the XMP/IPTC preset to those already embedded in the image. I prefer it to Lightroom for this job. My question would still be where the metadata we add on disk is located. I have searched the software documentation and the Internet without success. Over the years, we accumulate a fair amount of useful transfer presets when doing this task. It then becomes precious to preserve them. Which saddens me, I know when I have to reinstall the software, the metadata done within the preset remains completely lost. I was wondering if we could get this preset data back, we wouldn’t have to rewrite it every time. Therefore, if we have to do it, it becomes impossible to remember all the presets that we have accumulated over the years. In the program, I did not see any way to export, import or print the built-in list.

My question, do we have a way to find out where the XMP/IPTC preset metadata data files created by Nikon Transfer 2 is located on disk (directory and filename)?

Thank you and have good day

Hello,

This is regarding the location of the Nikon Transfer 2 metadata database; I believe I have found where the file is, as I cannot 100% confirm it as the file is a password-protected Microsoft Access database file, making sure that I cannot view its contents, I am almost certain it is the file in question. So I could save it and then restore this file to a new installation. This way, I don't lose any data registered in the transfer preset. I still have to investigate a little more to confirm it with certainty. So the Access file would be in one of the following directories C: \ Users \ UserName \ AppData \ Roaming \ Nikon \ Transfer 2 \ Database, I also saw the C: \ Users \ UserName \ AppData \ Roaming \ Nikon \ directory Nikon Transfer 2 \ Database. The name of the file in question is "Transfer.mdb", as I mentioned this file belongs to Microsoft's Access database. My version of "Nikon Transfer 2" file is located in the "Transfer 2" subdirectory.

Have a lovely day everybody,
Joliciel

Hello,

A few days later, I investigated a little more, looked for the Access file password “Transfer 2”, rather easy; we have to type in “Nikon” simply and the file will open in MS Access. The content is not at all what I thought, the metadata was found linked to the photo file as such (name, size, date and time); that's it. It is not the transfer metadata that we enter within the preset preferences. I’m wondering where this data is located as we enter there in the software.

Have a great day everyone,
Joliciel

Hi,

Maybe a bit late posting this but I am running W10 and the data is stored in the registry under HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1679686530-983456480-3237725663-1001\SOFTWARE\nikon\NkFramework\Nikon Transfer 2\Services\

(search registry for NkFramework should find it

RenameFile and RenameFolder contain the info.

Good Luck
