Hello All,

 

I'm using a Nikon Coolpix S4300 camera, Shotwell Photo Editor, Ubuntu Mate 20.04.

 

This morning I tried to download a few photos from the Coolpix camera. This camera used to work perfectly every time I downloaded in the past.  I got the message that "the camera is locked by another application ".

 

I have tried everything I could think of: removing the battery, shutting down the computer and rebooting, removing all cashe and cookies, etc.  To download I am using the OEM USB cord.  Always worked in the past.

 

Any ideas on what to do?

Check for other processes that are running and has hijacked the camera. Kill those processes.

 

If you can't find what processes cause your trouble, reboot in verbose mode dumping the log to a text file. This should give you an idea about what to stop from autostarting. I can't help you with the syntax to do this as my Linux skills are too rusty.

You could also use a card reader.  That seems to work the best for most folks.

I have already decided to do that.  It's a bit more of a hassle with these old dry fingers...
