Hello there again.

I say "again" because I'd posted an initial hello last week but for some reason it's not showing up. I'm guessing I've done something incorrectly. Ah well...

Anyway, I'm Dan and have been a Nikon user for about 10 years or so now. Started off with a d5000 and moved on to a d7100, which I still have and enjoy. Been thinking lately of going full frame and getting a d800e, but I'm now thinking perhaps an 810? Been dabbling in a little astrophotography and from what I can tell, it performs well in this area.

Anyway, once again, hello! Feel free with any suggestions. If I do go full frame I'll be looking here for lenses (or even a camera) first (I'm an Aussie, but currently living in Germany, by the way).

Cheers!

So… it is not just the Canucks invading the world but the Aussies too! :P

Welcome Daniel,

both the D800e and 810 will well support your efforts and the later is some-
what quieter btw. In the end, lenses are always the better investments.

We Aussies tend to get around (so to speak!)

Thanks, yes I'd read they were also quieter. One just caught my eye on ebay, sooo.... think I'll make a coffee and try not to act too impulsively!

No, I agree with you. The seller though is a sole trader in Germany offering many Nikon cameras and lenses. He offers Paypal etc and a 14 day trial period.

Another reason to go with the D810, besides the better low-light performance is the buffer size.

21 shots in 12-bit lossless is small enough to be problematic even if the pace isn't high. The 47 shot buffer makes the D810 much easier to use if you want it as a do-everything tool.
