D500 losing Lens details mid burst (AF0), I have been using this kit for over 2 years Nikon D500 with Sigma 150 x 600 C lens, been a very reliable combination.  23rd June was the first time I noticed during a short burst, that some of the images were black, Got Home, checked  for possible remedies on You Tube cleaned the contacts of the lens and camera. I tried different settings, all seamed to be good. Everything was good until yesterday 3rd August, same thing happened again.

I was on Shutter Priority which changed itself to Aperture Priority, the metering also changed from Matrix to center-weighted average

image metadata it says,

Manual Lens No CPU,

Aperture f/0,

Focal Len. 0.0mm

Can anyone offer any advice, I cannot find anything reference to this issue anywhere.

Thanking you for your time

regards

John

What did you use to clean the contacts? Standard electronics cleaners or alcohol don’t give a lasting protection unlike DeOxIT Gold.
Have you checked that the contact block is screwed firmly in the lens and that the contact pins can move freely?
The changed mode is because the camera can’t read the lens CPU and thinks it is an Ai lens.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your reply

I used Isopropyl IPA 99%, (which I have used on the electronics on the computers I use to build) not noticed movement from the contact block. I only had this issue when I hand held recently, as I do 50/50 with a monopod. I will recheck all areas of the lens contact to the camera housing, I will recheck in daylight.

Many thanks

Stay Safe

Best Regards

John

Something doesn't stay in contact when shooting handheld.

As the problem went away when you cleaned the contacts, trying DeoxIT Goldwill probably work. If the Surface gold coating has some small scratches, it will tarnish quickly after an
IPA clean. The conductive protective layer left behind when the solvents have evaporated from the DeoxIT will give a much longer lasting effect.
