To dust we all must return. It's good he's had care, a good life with a retirement package.
My grandfather had two old Belgian work horses he loved dearly. He had no need for them, but kept them shod, fed, and groomed until their natural death only weeks apart. They spent their last years in a pasture with some apple trees enjoying themselves and though they were massive animals, I've never met a gentler pair. He said of them, (as best I can recall), ''Me and those two put a lot of sweat into this place in the old days...They're the last of their kind around here.''
