This is my first post coming from the sister Pentax Forums site. Howdy!  :)

I have a number of M42 and K-mount lenses and I was wondering just how well these lens adapt to a Nikon J1. The camera appeals to me as a Q7 alternative for a much lower price that would still grant me some additional crop factor (i.e. telephoto zoom) but with a bigger sensor. I heard that Nikon 1 series does not have focus peaking displayed on the LCD so manual focus is difficult. Can anyone here share their experience in adapting M42 and K-mount lenses to the J1?

I see the basic kit listed for $199 but I have a feel that the price could be lower. Amazon will have a Lightening Deal at 5:50am Pacific Time. Assuming that I can wake up in time my question is what is the "wow, that's a great deal!" price I should look for? $159? $149?

Thanks!

At such a low price you might even enjoy the camera as an everyday point and shoot.  It's worth giving a shot regardless, I'd say!  If it's a lightning deal it'll probably drop by another $30-50.

It's a very interesting camera but the lens makes it too large to be an easy to drop into your pocket and go P&S.

What a difference in price across the pond. The same camera on amazon uk is £197, guess if you searched about you could probably get it a bit cheaper but you should appreciate the great deals you have on your doorstep in the USA http://www.amazon.co...ywords=nikon j1
