Any reason to get a D750 over a D810?

Hi,

I currently own a D700 and I'd like to upgrade. My main issue is about wildlife photos, mostly birds in flight; I would like to be able to crop my photos a bit more.

At the moment a new D750 and a used D810 go for about the same price. The D810 has more pixels and I understand it handles more or less like the D700, so I'm leaning toward the D810. Is there any reason to consider the D750 instead?

As for the obvious other choice, I don't want to go DX to get more reach; I don't shoot enough wildlife to justify a dedicated body, and I don't own any DX lenses (so no wide angles).

Salut nono,
(j'aime bien Gaston comme avatar! :))

I don't want to go DX to get more reach…

Good 'cause you wouldn't anyway.

File weight is the reason not to go the D810 way. File weight is
very demanding in terms of file transfer, processing power, sto-
rage. If your cards and card reader, your machine, and your con-
verter can handle it with ease, then go for it.

I own the D810 and D850 as publishing photographer. They are
outperforming the D7xx serie in every way: resolution is the first
point, extended DR is another.

If you shoot lots in low light, the D750 has an advantage as the FX 3500 II AF system handles even lower light levels before it starts hunting. That is the only real advantage it has over the D810.

When reduced to the same pixel density for print or screen they have approximately the same DR, the spectral response is equal and so is the S/N ratio.

The file size can be problematic if your computer is old or low-spec, but in that case you probably need the upgrade even for 24 MP files.

The UI is far superior on the D810 and you can boost the shooting rate and the AF speed by using a grip with either Eneloops or the EN-EL18, just like the D700.

Thanks for your answers. I already own a 36 MP body (a Pentax K-1) so I know file size won't be a problem.

i would go with D750 since better low light shooting and newer camera. but if can afford could get Z6 too. since will be coming down in price soon once Z6s and Z7s will bring down the price for them. and way better camera then D750

I handled the Z6 once, it is just too small for my big hands. Back button focus in particular is a pain.

Yep, I'm at the same place!

So am I! The D750 and D7200 are too small without the grip and the Z6 is smaller.

I have to agree. If you're using BBF (and I suppose you are since you're shooting birds in flight), go with the D810. The thumb falls right on the button. It's much better than the K-1 for that purpose.

Guess I'm the odd man out. Small hands so BBF on D7500, D750 and even Z50 is fine. :P
