Hi,

I am trying to compare these 2 lens for Nikon Z series cameras.

My understanding is the 24-200 allows me to zoom in closer to the subject (when compare to 24-70).  And they are both lowest is 24, meaning they are the same when zoom out.

My question is Considering the 24-200mm allows me to have a bigger range, why it is cheaper than the 24-70mm f/4 S lens?

NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR

NIKKOR Z 24-200mm f/4-6.3 VR lens | Interchangeable Lens for Nikon Mirrorless Cameras $1,279.95

NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S

Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S | NIKKOR Z interchangeable lens $1,399.95

Thank you for your help.

Sam

Superzooms like the 24-200 are optimized for convenience. The 24-70 is optimized for optical performance. Better and more complex glass elements are more expensive to make.

The 24-70 has a constant f/4 maximum aperture over the whole focal length range, the 24-200 varies from f/4 at 24 mm and f/6.3 at 200. The constant aperture is more expensive to make.

Not 100% sure on this but is one a FX and the other a DX lens, which camera do you want it for.

They are both FX lenses.

both are FX lenses i should know since own Z6 and was looking at one at one time but found out better with F mount glass since lower F/stop and main reason will replace 24-70mm F/4 for F/2.8 now. since i know pro and cons shooting with F/4 when i use my gen 1 tamron 150-600mmn or 1.7 teleconverter on gen 1 70-200mm to give 300mm at F/4.8
