"The 20MP D500 is Nikon's flagship APS-C format DSLR. With continuous shooting speeds of 10 fps and a 200 shot buffer for Raw images, the camera is aimed squarely at action and fast-paced photographers who don't mind the smaller sensor, or even benefit from its extra reach. It features the same 153-point AF system and 180k-pixel RGB metering sensor of the professional full-frame D5, along with the same EXPEED 5 processor. It can also capture 4K/UHD video and also features 'SnapBridge', a constant connection to a smartphone using Bluetooth." Credit DPREVIEW.COM

Something is misunderstood in this.

That cropped sensor still has 20 MP and that is plenty enough for many
applications. As a publishing photographer, I need a minimum for 50%
more resolution in most all the situations.

The good pixel density and the lower MP count permit — because of the
restricted file size (even more so in jpg!) the higher rate and greater buf-
fer performance so "don't mind" is not right but "wish for" correctly is.

Last point. THERE IS NO REACH BENEFIT since there is no focal length
change in a smaller sensor… at most, a narrower AoV may be spoken of
but even that is not entirely correct; it is a cropped capture… simply.

"Reach benefit" is only obtained through use of a TC but never through sen-
sor size — using a TC is a whole different matter that I will not discuss here.

The more reach phrase came about when Nikon and others wanted us to give up our full-frame film cameras and buy into the new digital world, sensor manufacturers struggled with making larger sensors so the crop/Dx was launched.

In some ways you can understand why they pushed the more reach myth as buy a new digital camera with a "reduced field of view" would not have worked as well.

Nikon shooter is 100% correct no extra reach with a crop sensor, now unless you are cropping DX from say a D850 you can have more pixels on the subject with DX rather than a cropped FX but thats a different can of worms.
