Hello,

Can anyone suggest a good head reasonably priced for taking panoramic photo's? I am using a Manfrotto - 3001BPRO tripod.

Thanks!

You can use any head you want to, but with an Arca-Swiss compatible QR you can get something like this to make life easier. The RRS kit is expensive, but any rotating clamp unit and any nodal slide or macro slide will work. With modern stitching software, the nodal slide isn't strictly necessary, but the stitching goes faster when the fit is better.

I have made lots of panos with a simple ball head and a long QR plate to use as a nodal slide, but you need to be careful when setting up the tripod so that there is no tilt.

Your tripod is called 190 PRO B outside the US, by the way. 3001 is a Bogen model number.

Cognisys make an automated system for multi-row panos, but they are *expensive*.  StackShot 3X Pan-Tilt Kit

I invested in two systems.

1, a robot for multiple rows/columns — for longer focal length and
2, the Manfrotto head for wider shoots and PC lens work.

B&H Photo has a nice primer on panorama photography which lists many of the necessary tools and accessories.

if have local camera store that is camera store try out tripods at place you see what fits your needs and how heavy and big it is to store. also get tripod or monopod that can hold more weight then you need at times never know if upgrade to heavier setup from lens combo too.
