Cromatic Aberration.  Nasim Mansurov has a good explanation in his blog

I've noticed a bit a chromatic aberration with my old 24~120D that I've mentioned in one of these threads. However, I was surprised at how well I was able to correct it in Lightroom, even without a dedicated lens profile. Still, it was there, and quite noticeable. Especially at 1:1.

I've been thinking of trading that lens in but it's really nice in most other respects and has incredible bokeh at the long end of the zoom range which was totally unexpected. Who knew! LOL

Have you tried opening raw files from it in Capture NX? That software transforms some of the LoCA and AxCA riddled older zooms and makes them usable.

No, I haven't. I don't even own Capture NX although I've toyed with getting it from time to time.

It can be downloaded for a 60-day trial at Nikon's site. It is not the most workflow-oriented piece of software, but it renders even difficult raw files beautifully. I use it sometimes to get a better starting point when I can't get things to look right with Adobe software.

Thanks for the info. I'll have to give it a try and see how I like it. At the moment I don't even have ViewNX installed.
