Hi Everyone. I am new here and hopefully someone can help me with a very frustrating problem I have encountered. I have had communication with Nikon Support but unfortunately the suggestions have not worked. I  have a B700. I am a newbie. I have been playing with settings and following suggestions for best bird settings etc. I have NEVER used the Copyright or Comments, Artist setting.

When i take a photo and then want to preview it, I hit the playback button.

I see my photo for literally one second, then a black screen pops up with th following list: Comment: Artist: Copyright:

I have followed the steps to cancel this setting but I do not get the options that the manual indicates. For instance: I go to Wrench icon/ set up Menu. Both Image Comment and Copyright Info are OFF. If i cllick on comment to turn it on, I can highlight Attach Comment and then hit ok for input comment and i get a keyboard to type my info. I don't want to do that so i take the check mark off of Attach comment, scroll back and it says Comment OFF. There is no option to say no, or to cancel the option.

So basically, EVERY time i want to preview a photo i get a black screen with the 3 headings I indicated; the black screen disappears if i press the play back button to scroll through the photos i have taken, i see my photo for one second then the black screen appears: hit play back, see next photo for 1 second and black screen appears.

I hope my description makes sense!

Again, i have never set this info in the first place and the black screen shows up every time I preview every single photo i have taken. Hopefully the video also makes my issue more clear.

thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

My first thought would be to reset to factory defaults.  Not sure how to do it since I don't have that camera, but the manual probably provides that info.

It sounds like you have managed to activate one of the information overlays in playback mode. It will display the overlay even if the value is null for the variables.

I am not sure how the B700 works, but on a DSLR you open a photo and press up or down on the 4-way selector to get to the overlay or lack thereof you want. There is probably a custom setting somewhere that lets you limit what screens the sequence will toggle through.

thank you both for your thoughts. I think I may have to reset to factory settings but i have snapbridge working soooo well i hate to change anything. I have 2 cameras synched. But if i have to I will.

I tried looking into information overlays and doing what the manual said but no luck.

One thing i wonder about: i seem to have a bad habit of hitting the Fn1 and Fn2 buttons by mistake. Is it possible i locked something that way I wonder? At any rate, thanks so much for your thoughts on this irritating topic!   Suzanne

I have downloaded the manual and read it now. You should only need to press DISP to get rid of the overlay (page 7 in the reference handbook).

THANK YOU! I have a mix of sheer happiness and embarrassment! I admit I google questions more than read the manual because reading the manual on my phone is a pain - BUT it is time to focus on the manual on my computer! I am amazed that answer never surfaced including 2 attempts at solving my problem with the NIKON Support Team at Nikon... you win the prize!

My apologies to NIKON - they had made the same suggestion but alas, my COVID stressed brain has made my technical brain a little mushy.

thank you for guiding me in the right direction.
