Last week, a french publisher bought the rights to publish this image.

Everything went well — as usual — until the layout project was drop-
ped on the editor's desk: "NO! There is a conflict with the page fonts
colours… take another picture!" as he liked the done graphic work.

The graphist told me that and asked for either a change of colours or
a new picture. I proposed a change of colours.

Without knowing which is the original, your pick would go for…

I would go for the first one because of the more contrasting colours.

If I would have to guess giving the colour palet, I would guess that the second one is the original.

… but would't that conflict with the fonts for attention?

Not necessarily. Without having seen the font and finished product, of course. If I wanted something that didn't "steal" attention from the font at all, I would not use a photo as a background.

I would have to choose the second image.  Basically, because it has the more natural look of lake water.  I cannot recall ever seeing lake water with a greenish hue to it.

Truthfully, photographically I really enjoy both images.  Nice work in every case.  Thanks for sharing.

Water has no colours but it is, in given situations, a good
reflector. The first, reflecting the early Spring growth is the
original. The second could be reflecting Autumnal foliage.
