Photography is a hobby of mine, and I'm always looking for ways to improve. I use a D3400 and I love it. I'm hoping to talk to users with the same camera to learn from.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hello 99.  I'm in PA also, but don't have a D3400.  My DX camera is a D5500 and my FX is a D700, (oh well...).  There's plenty of great help here, so you've come to the right place.  What lenses do you have for your D3400?  It's a capable machine and one you can have a lot of fun with.

Welcome.

Kragg,

I use the kit lenses that came with the camera.  An AF-P nikkor 70-300mm 1:4.5-6.3 ED and an Nikkor 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 G DX VR. I've gotten a lot of great shots with both lenses, but am looking to upgrade the Nikkor 70-300.

There's certainly nothing wrong with the kit lenses, they do a lot better than their price would lead one to believe. With a Zoom to 300mm you'll want the VR version.  Here's some reading if you like, just do a search for,  Nikon lens reviews by Ken Rockwell.  It's an interesting site full of reviews and how to articles.  I find the output amazing that these little compact Nikon DSLR's are capable of.  They're nothing short of fantastic!

I'm going the opposite direction, planning on a Nikkor fast wide angle zoom for my D700 for night photography and star shooting.
