Hi,

I recently purchased a Coolpix A1000 and have a bit of an issue. Sometimes I get a faint purple circle in the middle of an image. This usually happens indoors shooting a dark subject when the light is beginning to fade. It is to be seen through the viewfinder and is also on the photo. I shoot RAW. Light coloured subjects and outside it isn’t visible. Anyway, I can’t see it. I have the latest firmware 1.2. I include an example.

Has anyone else had this phenomenon?

Thanks,

Gerry.

Edit: 14/3

Just been outside. Middle of the afternoon with plenty of light. Still the same problem (see 2nd photo). Should I send it back?

A few possibilities, but if its in the same place every time then i wonder if its been pointed at the sun.

Mike, thanks for the reply.

I agree, it looks a bit like lens flare, but it is always in the centre of the frame. Moving left-right-up or down, always centre. The first photo was indoors early evening, and the second outdoors with the sun over my right shoulder. Pointing to lighter areas it is still there, but very faint and easy to miss. As this forum is more user to user, do you maybe know an email address of Nikon tech support themselves?

Thanks.

A flare? Not to me… there is not a trace of Sun in the shots.

I would send the shots to the store and ask them to resolve
the issue subito presto whichever way, Gerry. All the best. :P

Not suggesting flare, thinking more sensor damage from being pointed at the sun.

Thanks folks for your input. I doubt if I have taken more than couple of dozen shots with the camera up to now, and there has been hardly any sun. I guess taking it back to the store is going to be tricky due to this Covid-19 business as I have to go by train and tram. But hey, I have a 5 year guarantee so I can afford to wait a while.

Gerry.
