I have a Nikon D300s as a hand me down, I have had it for a few years, but I don't ever remember trying to use the top 3 buttons (I have not used the camera a whole lot, just now really getting in to photography) and, well they don't work, for how long, I have no idea. I was just wondering, or maybe it's a pointless hope, that it is something in the software. Unfortunately though, I don't think my chances for that are all that great, as the piece of plastic that holds the three buttons is able to spin. So, is there a deep hidden setting that you could help me navigate to? Also, if not, do I have any real chance of Nikon doing anything about it? At the very least though, I think I would be fine if I am just able to set the FN+wheel to ISO, but I was not able to figure out how to do that, there is no obvious option for it where you change the use of that button. Thank you for, at the very least reading this even if you have no real advice for me, and if you do have any tips, they would be greatly appreciated.

You can remove the back of the camera but be careful of the flexable cable that connects to the Image PCB.  The connectors are very delicate to open and lock.  You can just clean up the contacts inside the camera back and put it back together.  Is there still access to the menus?  If so you should be able to change your settings there and you can ignore the buttons that don't work.  Good Luck
