Welcome to the first NikonForums.com lens review! In this review, we'll be taking a look at the recently-announced AF-S Nikkor 58mm F1.4 lens, a premium "normal" prime with a hefty pricetag of $1699. Featuring nano crystal coating and optics optimized for low aberrations, this lens promises to be a high-quality alternative to the 50mm F1.4G. But how much better is it? Read our review to find out!

Precise and honest review, Adam. It's sharpness wide open is already a point of discussion elsewhere and does not seem to justify it's high price tag.

I'd love a 58mm for the field of view on my cameras (DX) as they are almost perfect for portraits. But at this price....fugedaboudit!

How is a tighter field than a 50mm a negative?   That does not make much sense.  A 50mm is longer than a 35mm and so on. If a person wants EXACTLY 50mm, then that is what they should shoot; otherwise, a little longer only adds to portraiture for both FX and DX.
