Hello

Thanks for accepting me into the Forum. I'm an armature from Linlithgow in Scotland.

Looking for a wee bit of advice. When I use my D5600 in high contrast sitautions I get a halo effect on the image. Any help with identifying what is acusing this would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using a D5600 with a AF-P 70-300 lens shooting on shutter priority with Picture Control set to Vivid. All other image controls such as Active D lighting are turned on Vignette Control is set to Normal.

The image below is unedited from the camera other that to equalise the image in Photoshop to show the effect more clearly. The halo can be seen around the engine / undercarriage and above the wing.

As I say any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Thabks.

Craig.

Welcome Craig! :P

The way I understand it, you're shooting jpgs.

You need all the DR you can get with that body — not talking
about yours but the camera's — and you should possibly con-
sider, on those shooting conditions, recording in RAW (NEF) for-
mat using your best friend, the histogram.

I'm having the same problem but I'm shooting NEF. I saw a photo shot with a Nikon by a well-known photographer and it too had the same problem... or what I perceive to be a problem. It's very faint but for me it sticks out like a neon sign. Any ideas? You'll see an example of it along the left edge of the hat in this image:
