Hi all,

I’m considering switching systems. Currently working with mostly a Canon 6D but it’s just not catching up with me.
My eye is drawn to the D850 but I can’t make up my mind. I’ve read so many reviews, I’d like some 1:1 help.

My biggest worries are the autofocus system and the app compatibility. I shoot self portraits too, how’s this for Nikon when connected to a smart phone?
How’s the autofocus system?

My other worry is, it’s such a huge investment, will the D850 stay relevant in the years to come?
I’ve also considered the Z7 but it’s just so small, coming from a D6 with grip which I love in terms of feel I doubt I’ll appreciate the smaller body of the Z line much.

I mostly do portraits by the way, sometimes street and landscape.

Hope someone’s around to brainstorm with me. :)

Hi. I own both a D850 and a Z 7. I'm not a professional photographer, but if there is any questions I can help answer for you, I'd be happy to.

Why should you?

Files are smaller and the DR is close enough!

Welcome to Nikon and have a good time!

I currently shoot with the D810 and it is still a great camera. If you are now looking at entering a new brand ecosystem, I would look at the Z family. The D850 is a wonderful body I just think if one isn't in the F-mount system, go with the future. For the longest time I've thought I would buy the D850 as my next camera as prices will drop even further with time but that being said, the new lens designs from Nikon has me really stroking my chin and ponder how nice the Z-Mount 50mm f/1.8 is.
