Greetings guys, I'm new here.

I like sports Photography mostly (windsurf to be exact) and usually the subjects are really far away so I have to use my 55-300mm f/4.5 - 5.6.

I'm upgrading to the Z6 now and I wonder if the 2x nikon teleconverter will work well with the 55 300mm from Nikon and the F mount adapter of the Z6.

Alternatively I was considering to buy the Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (Model A022) for Nikon.

also (side question), attatching a 2x teleconverter to the 150-600 is doable? will the autofocus even work?

I'm not a pro so I'd like to hear from you guys what you think about this.

thnks a lot in advance

What ever performance you had from the TC you will get when
mounted on the Z6.

I shoot windsurfing and other water sports and, as for wildlife, I
declined using TCs for a 600 mm ƒ4 / the D850 combo. These
give me all the sharpness I need plus great cropping latitude.

The 55-300 is a DX lens and will not cover the full sensor on the Z6.

The TC-20 isn't compatible with any consumer zooms because of the protruding front element. AF-S Teleconverter Compatibility

There are some third-party TC-s that can be mounted to consumer lenses.

The Z6 AF should work all the way to f/11 but it will probably be slow and erratic using a TC.

The Tamron 150-600 G2 is a better solution than anything that involves a 2X TC on a slow zoom.

I am going to suggest you rethink the camera body, i have nothing against the Z series in fact I have a Z50 on order, i don't see a full-frame mirrorless as the best choice for your interests.

In my opinion, you would be better off with the D500 and the Tamron 150-600 G2.

Its easy to see full frame as an upgrade and it can be, not sure in your situation though that it would be.

The Tamron has been reported to not be perfect on the Z series from what i understand the Sigma 150-500 is more compatable

The longer range zooms like the 150-500 or 150-600 or Nikon's 200-500 are not small lenses.  You will get a better lens / camera balance if you stay with one of the DSLRs, either DX like the D500 or  D7200 or FX like the D750.  That is less of a consideration if you are shooting from a monopod or tripod.  What is the goal with the move to a mirrorless?

thanks for the reply. Mostly I'm swapping to the z6 cause I gotta upgrade from myD7000,

Also it's amazing for videos and I'll be using it quite a lot for that as well.

for shooting windsurfing most of the time I use a tripod or monopod. I was able to shoot freehand with the 300mm but I'm guessing it's gonna be very hard with the 600 so I'll use the tripod at all times
