Yuppers!  Yours truly did it again.  I have had this awesome lens for several years now and recently attempted to remove the

 

filter with no luck.  I really hate to try to force anything because of the potential consequences.  Any thoughts or ideas?

Put a rubber mat on a flat surface, press the filter down and turn the lens.

If the rubber mat trick doesn't work, get a filter wrench. The filter wrenches usually work on polarizers, unlike the rubber mat.

To avoid filter threads galling in the future, either get filters with brass rings or use some graphite on the threads before you mount the filter.

I managed to free a stuck filter on my B700 using a vicious looking pair of plumber's slip joint pliers.

 

I taped over the serrated jaws with electrical tape to protect the finish, had someone else hold the camera firmly so I could use both hands on the pliers then used my left hand to grip carefully before pulling firmly with my right.

 

A bit scary but it worked.

I have had success with rubber bands before.  Also one of those rubbery things they sell / give away to help open jars.

The main thing to avoid is any type of grip, like your hand grip that only touches the filter in a few places, this can distort the filter ring enough to make it even harder to remove.
