Hi everybody, My first DSLR camera was a D50 and I have had a desire for old times sake to get another. I found one and bought it but when I tried to upload pictures from it to my PC and laptop both running Windows 10 it wouldn't work. I have tried to put the disc (picture project 1.5) in but the computers would not accept that either. I also have a Coolpix S9900 and a

D5500 which both work perfectly with the computers, can anyone offer any advice please. Thanks.

Have you tried another cable?

The D50 has both Mass storage and PTP modes if I remember correctly. If you set it to Mass storage, it should turn up as an external drive in Explorer.

Why use a cable? A card reader isn't expensive and works better.

Hi Merco_61, thanks for your reply, the camera is set to mass storage but it does not let the computer upload the pictures. I have a slot in both my desktop and laptop for the SD cards but it still doesn't work when I insert the card.

What happens from the card reader in each computer?  Can you see the images on the card?  Are you receiving an error?

It is possible that the technology in the D50 is just too old for the computer.  I have had this problem with older Pentax digitals and the only way around it 

 

is to shoot in RAW.  No problems after that.  Hope this helps.

The built-in cardreaders aren't the best on the market. I have had better luck with cheap Kingston readers and much better luck with Sandisk's readers.

Well I got myself a card reader and it seems to have solved the problem, all seems to be ok now. Thanks to all that offered advice, I'm very grateful.
