Wasn't sure where to post this - hope this area works:

So I sold my D850 on ebay - 6070 snaps total. In perfect shape. Buyer needed it by Oct 12 for a "shoot" that day.

Received a return request on Oct 19 that the camera continuously locked up during shoot and he had to "limp" through it, and wanted to return it.

I asked many questions as I had zero probs with it before selling. 1) was he using genuine batteries, and 2) how many snaps had he put on it.

Buyer said he used genuine batteries. Buyer would NOT answer how many snaps.

Buyer insisted over and over that he was going to get eBay involved. I finally said to return the camera as he indicated it would come in perfect condition, and if he did have this prob, it must have been lens related or something.

Received the camera back today. Inside the battery compartment was a non-genuine battery (Bonacell) - so he lied. Also, camera FLEW through 200+ snaps in continuous mode with no issue (with genuine battery). Shutter count...........11,850!!!!!! WTH.

So buyer expects me to accept a return of a perfectly working camera that now has almost double the snaps on it, yet somehow it "wasn't functioning at all and he had to limp through" - 5,700+ snaps is NOT limping through a photo session!

I either think this buyer used me to "rent" this camera for a week, or they did have a FEW issues because they were using a bad battery, and now want to return the camera.

Thoughts?

As right as your post sounds and it looks like you have been conned I bet Ebay will side with the buyer

Sounds like they just used the camera for their need and took advantage of you. Double the shots in one week, does not sound like "limp" through it. Sorry for your situation, only sold a couple of items on Ebay myself. I would contact Ebay just to get it on record no matter who they side with.

Yeah, the buyer has like 6,000 feedback. Crazy.

I mean 5,700 snaps during a claimed "one session where the camera wouldn't work" is ridiculous. It's no wonder the guy didn't want to answer my question as to how much he had used it. Either way, I opened a case and we'll see how this goes down.

Please keep us updated on how this works out. I definitely smell a rat in this buyer's story and would be refusing to refund him the full purchase price after so many shots. As is often the case, though, taking it to a court would probably cost more than the camera is worth so I hope E Bay deals with you fairly over this.

Presumably it is the same camera that you sold?
