Just recently while shooting with my Nikon D200 with my Nikon SB-24 flash unit, I noticed a squeak after every exposure.

At first I thought it was the D200, but then I turned the camera off and then pushed the test button on the flash and the

squeak happened again.  Repeated the action and now it has become a permanent feature in the flash.  I have had this

unit about 18 months, purchased new, but old stock.  Yes, I do confess I do use it a lot however I would hope that it is not

on its last leg.  Fully charged batteries, the test light recycles in four seconds, so no problem there.  I have never heard of

this type of issue before.

Thanks very much,

TT

What you are hearing is the DC-DC inverter charging the capacitor in the flash. It is perfectly normal.

I see.  Interesting that it should happen now after all this time.  This is the second SB-24 I have owned and this issue did not happen with the first one.

Thnx Peter.

They always whine, but the frequency varies over time.
