Hi All

I have a d800 and it started putting a dark band at the top of the photo. Its being caused by a small flap that sits behind the mirror at the bottom and seems to block light coming in under the mirror when it is down. The flap is about 3 mm high and black in colour so dosnt appear to be there to reflect light. It is on a pivot and I can push it back , obviously it is supposed to go back when the mirror goes up and exposes sensor but the arm is broken , Can anyone tell me why the flap it is there and what the implications are if I just remove the flap ?

Thanks in Advance

Owen
