Greetings...

Recently upgraded from D3300 to D7500. First thing I did was check the firmware and, finding a needed update, I upgraded that with no issues.

Camera boots up fine, took a few test photos with new GOOD quality formatted cards to get familiar with the controls...nice!

The issue here came when I went to change some of the default options, following some general recommendations from John Greengo at CreativeLive.

I shoot in both RAW+JPEG fine. John demonstrated how to change this over in the "Menu --- Photo Shooting Menu --- Image Quality". His results are in the first attached image...a bunch of NEF (RAW) option, plus all the Jfull_option.PNG my_menu.jpg EG options and even a TIFF option.

When I go that same menu route in my new camera, all it shows are JPEG options, e.g, JPEG fine, normal*, normal, basic* and basic, as in the second image. No RAW options, no TIFF listing, etc.

Interestingly, a few lines down, under the "NEF (RAW) recording" option, compression and bit depth can both be selected and options selected accordingly.

In a last attempt, I did a "factory reset" and checked again...same results as before? I also reset the shooting menu and still have the issue...

Anyone have an idea or two here on how to fix this? This sounds more like a software issue and not a physical issue with the camera itself.

Thanks for all assistance and ideas in advance!

I had the same experience when I got my new-to-me D7500. I even did the reset, too. Then I looked at the display a bit more closely and realized that I was looking at the "second page" of that menu - notice the thicker white line on lower right edge of the Image Quality menu in the OP. You can scroll up and find what you're looking for. It seems that the initial display of that menu defaults to the bottom of the list of available choices. Go figure. SMH

Wellllllll, now....aren't I embarrassed!😒

After making the initial post, I went back to the manual and played around with the settings more. Imagine my surprise when I held down the "quality" button and rotated the command dial! Voila! Any setting I wanted including the NEF (RAW) + JPEG Fine I was looking for....

Ironically, when you go to the shooting menu itself, it will show whatever you've selected with the 'quality + Command dial'...doesn't seem to be a way to actually make your selection via the menu itself.

I am suchhhh a noob! 😁 So, posting an answer to my own question for...uh...other potential noobs out there who are getting familiar with their new D7500...

Cheers,
