I recently bought a second hand 17-55mm f/2.8G AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor lens.
When I was looking for a serial number for my camera insurance company the only number I can find is 366216 (see attached).
There is no mention of this being the serial number and I began thinking has this lens been dropped and this number is just the number of the replacement part that has been fitted.
When I queried this with the company I bought the lens from they replied
It is very common for the serial number on professional lenses to be engraved in this fashion
is this the case or are they telling porkies
