Hi to everyone!
Bit of a long shot but can a nikon af-s teleconverter tc-20Eii x2 be made to fit a nikon ED AF NIKKOR 300mm f4 by cutting off the small lug on the female bayonet of the teleconverter as this stops the lenses male bayonet from engaging - I'm not altering the main bayonet blades just this small 'lug' which measures just 3mm but I can't see any use for it (other than nikon making you buy a newer and more expensive model converter). If I hold an older nikkor lense side by side with the teleconverter the only difference is this 'lug' - everything else matches perfectly. In the literature with the converter (used from MPB - so presumably checked and working) it lists my 300 ED f4 lens as 'can be used but with without autofocus' but I physically cannot fit the converter to the lens - fits perfect on my d800.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
Thanks any help greatly appreciated
Jon

The E converters won't mount anything except the pro tele and telezoom AF-i and AF-S lenses without modification. The lug is there to stop the use of slow consumer zooms and, unfortunately, this excludes the old pro teles as well. It can be removed, but take care if you decide to do so.
