I am a retired hobbyist looking to take Hummingbird photos using my D5100.  Some camera obstacles I am fighting are"

1/  The 30 minute maximum on time before power off. Maybe I can just have a IR remote trigger the camera every 29 minutes to keep it live? Or have a timed motion waver do the same.  Extra pictures are free and I can use a 115v power attachment to overcome battery power issues.

2/   The accessory interface - What remote shutter accessory/s has anyone used/hacked to a motion sensor using Arduino maybe?  Does this interface stay active or ON for extended periods.  Seems the IR remote mode with the wireless remote only stays on for a very short time before the camera Release Mode reverts back to S.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any comments or ideas..
