Hi Folks,
Greetings to all from the highlands of Scotland, which is very much a land of mists and cold, dark mystery this evening.
After a lifetime in the music industry as an orchestral & jazz musician, educator & composer, I've changed direction and I'm working towards a new career as a sports (and other) photographer.
A strange technical problem has developed and I'm hoping that someone might have a solution, or be able to offer advice.
When I use my NIKKOR 80-400mm 1:45-5.6G ED lens with my D500, all is well. It works perfectly shot after shot. However, when I use this lens with my D800 it works perfectly for a dozen shots or so, then the image through the viewfinder or on the live view suddenly goes very dull and dark, the photographs are VERY dark, and they are unusable. If I take the lens off then put it back on all is well, for a dozen shots or so, then the problem happens again....
Merely switching the camera off and on doesn't solve the problem at all, only removing then replacing the lens, which only solves it temporarily, as explained in the previous paragraph.
The lens works perfectly on the D500. Also all my other lenses, all NIKKOR, work perfectly on both cameras, the D500 & the D800.
I don't understand, but I'm hoping that members of the forum might have come across this one before.
Cheers
